How long can a ship's anchor chain be used?

1. How often does the ship's anchor chain need to be replaced?

Ship anchor equipment needs to be regularly inspected and maintained. During the wear inspection, check the ring-to-ring contact and the friction between the marine anchor chain and the marine anchor chain. Use a caliper to measure the maximum and minimum diameters of the same cross section and take the average value. In the navigation area, if the chain link diameter is found to be less than 85% of the original diameter, it should be replaced. When carrying out abrasion inspection on ships' anchor chains in the second and third navigation areas, if the chain link diameter is found to be less than 85% of the original diameter, it should be replaced with a new one.

Usually marine anchor chains need to be inspected every six months. The service life of marine anchor chains is not based on years, but on wear. Measurements are made each time the ship is repaired, and the loss exceeds the standard.

2.How to extend the service life of marine anchor chains?

Marine anchor chains are immersed in seawater all year round, and they are easily rusted and broken by seawater corrosion. So how to extend the service life of marine anchor chains through use and maintenance?

First, the ship's anchor chain that needs to be maintained is treated with a shot blasting machine to remove dust, dirt, rust, etc. on its surface. Then use the coal char asphalt coating to paint the marine anchor chain again. Finally, apply 2 to 3 lines to the marine anchor chain with marine anchor chain asphalt.

In addition to normal maintenance, we should also pay attention to it during use. The anchoring speed cannot be too fast. Too fast will easily cause the ship's anchor chain to be difficult to control during the break, which will damage the windlass. The correct approach should be to slowly lower the marine anchor chain.

3. Difference between mooring chain and marine anchor chain

Mooring chains are different from general marine anchor chains. Mooring chains are usually used on drilling platforms or oil platforms. Therefore, there are many requirements for mooring chains. The steel for marine mooring chains must have high strength, high toughness and corrosion resistance Comprehensive performance. Due to its harsh working environment, there are many requirements for this chain, such as strength, stiffness, defect detection, and so on.
